Window screens cannot be moved or altered to install an air conditioner. Mounted air conditioners must be placed inside the apartment (not outside the window) and cannot be attached to the wall or window ledge.
Note: Residents can rent standing air conditioners from Family Leasing for $150 for the summer.
Residents are responsible for purchasing and using their own insecticides for minor pest problems. If the resident cannot handle using their own methods they must notify the Housing Facilities Office about the insect problem. If the situation cannot be handled internally exterminator service will be scheduled with a local provider, and is usually available at no charge to residents. However, if a resident’s lack of cleanliness is a contributing factor of an infestation, the resident could be billed for their own and their neighbors’ extermination costs. If it is determined that there is a major problem, all apartments in a localized area will be sprayed and treated together. Residents cannot opt out of spraying once it is determined necessary. Residents should remove themselves from the sprayed area for several hours afterward as a routine safety precaution.
Mold comes in many forms and colors. Some species of mold can adversely affect your health, causing illness or
allergic reactions to those who are sensitive. Mold can also damage or stain walls, shelves, and carpeting if left unattended. We strongly encourage all residents to follow these guidelines:
The most effective way to clean mold thoroughly is with a cleaning solution. Pine sol and hot water will remove all mold spores and will not discolor anything it comes in contact with. During the winter months mold can grow more aggressively due to condensation and lack of sunlight. Please follow these simple steps to eliminate any mold you may see:
1. In the spray bottle mix 1 part Pine sol to 10 parts water.
2. Spray the solution directly on the mold.
3. Use the rag to thoroughly scrub the area.
4. Wipe the area dry.
5. Check for new mold in a week’s time.
Please note: Residents are responsible for prevention and clean up of mold on walls, bathroom areas, and in windowsills. Housing will clean areas not related to lifestyles or living conditions, of the residents. For example areas related to water pipes, leaks or inside walls and ceilings.
